Catalyst:

The Catalyst program offers STEM-based educational units that partner volunteers with classroom teachers to guide students through hands-on projects that encourage student interest and achievement while providing ‘real world’ experience.

The Community & Volunteer Engagement Manager will be particularly focused on stakeholder management of students, volunteers, and teachers including but, not limited to volunteer recruitment, stewardship, and teacher experience.

Makers and Mentors Network:

Makers + Mentors Network (MMN), a STEM initiative of Citizen Schools, partners with communities and organizations to uplift STEM mentoring and maker-centered learning as essential tools to build a stronger, more diverse workforce. Recognizing that unlike talent, opportunity and access are not equally distributed, we focus on underserved and underrepresented students, including girls, students of color and youth from low-income communities. Makers + Mentors Network advances its mission through three primary models: a National Community of Practice, Make For All, and Maker Fellows.

THE ROLE

As our Community & Volunteer and Engagement Manager (CVEM), you will play a critical role in Citizen Schools’ effort to build the Citizen Schools presence and brand recognition in Dayton, OH (the Greater Cinncinati area). You will manage the initial coalition development and implement a landscape assessment. You will also oversee the recruitment and engagement of corporate and community volunteers for Catalyst program delivery.

As the steward of our volunteer experience with Catalyst, you will lead the implementation of local volunteer training, matching teachers with volunteers, collecting and reviewing survey data to troubleshoot challenges and collect promising practices in real-time.

This is a contract position (April - December) with a strong likelihood of contract renewal. The CVEM reports directly to Lauren Chamberlain, Managing Director of Training and Experience (Catalyst) and you’ll also offer secondary support to Brian O’Neil, Program Director (MMN). This role is remote and based in a home office in the Dayton, OH or Greater Cincinnati area to ensure close engagement and alignment with the community partners, volunteers and teachers within the region. This position is on the national team, directly supporting the Catalyst model and Makers and Mentors Network (MMN).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Partnership Building (Makers + Mentors Network) :

  • Support the ongoing enhancement & implementation of a Dayton STEM landscape assessment, including community assets, needs, and opportunities identification for partnership development
  • Coordinate and support initial Dayton coalition development, in partnership and support of the Program Director, including local partner outreach and communications
  • Support the Greater Cincinnati STEM Collaborative (GCSC) in the communications and coordination of program offerings to Dayton-based organizations via GCSC
  • Participate as the Citizen Schools representative in the Dayton STEM coalition on an ongoing basis

Volunteer Recruitment & Stewardship (Catalyst programming):

  • Build partnerships for STEM volunteer pipeline with a focus on partners rooted equity and expanding STEM access in the local STEM network and field (Dayton and Cincinnati)
  • Oversee volunteer partnership development with a focus on leading external outreach strategy and execution of events such as STEM networking events, hosting lunch & learns, cold outreach (emails/cold calls)
  • Recruit volunteers and steward volunteer relationships in close partnership with the Catalyst Program Manager
  • Manage the volunteer pipeline and lead full cycle conversion of volunteer leads to applicants
  • Oversee volunteer matching with the Catalyst Program Manager based on location and availability
  • Exemplify brand ambassadorship of Citizen Schools in the Dayton and Cincinnati market and identify and being mindful of how CS is received and welcomed into the local STEM market

Systems Support:

  • Collaborate with the national team in the collection and analysis of post-orientation survey data for each Catalyst Project & Dayton coalition development
  • Administer constituent surveys (volunteer, etc.), ensure completion, and analyze survey results for all Catalyst projects (volunteers) each semester.
  • Ensure all contacts and conversation/meeting history with external volunteer prospects and institutional contacts are consistently updated in Salesforce
  • Database Management - Execute comprehensive clean-up and norming of volunteer records and contact lists
  • Data Management - Create and manage reports for invitation lists, targeted solicitations, newsletters, quarterly reports, volunteer follow-up, volunteer lead life cycle

The ideal candidate will be a skilled relationship-builder and facilitator, have knowledge/experience in experiential or project-based learning, and be someone who is excited to bring real-world learning to life through meaningful connections between all stakeholders. This role will require a willingness to work with ambiguity, collaboration, and a commitment to resource development. You will be an ideal candidate for this position if you are a natural storyteller and have a high level of detail orientation.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

    • 3+ years of relevant experience (e.g. education, nonprofit administration, community outreach), sales and recruitment experience preferred
    • Desire and ability to travel to see our programming in action, visiting schools and sites between Dayton, OH, and Cincinnati
    • Willingness to seek out and attend STEM networking events to build a diverse pipeline of STEM professionals excited to deepen the impact of Citizen Schools
    • “Entrepreneurial Spirit”: Someone who currently has or can demonstrate a true passion for building something great from nothing and are willing to push themselves to the limits to achieve big goals.
    • Communication & storytelling skills: Someone who understands the many audiences of our organization, both internal and external, and who can help to craft the right messaging and stories with our data and evaluation tools.
    • Prior success working across a matrixed organization, balancing the needs of multiple teams and the ability to navigate those needs with savviness
    • Ability to quickly grasp conceptual plans and implement them in a timely manner with close attention to detail and accuracy
    • Strong team orientation and ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
    • Proactive attitude, out of the box thinking, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
