THE ROLE

As the Director of Technology, you will lead the organization’s technology systems and platforms, focusing on evaluation, adoption, and fidelity to best practices. You will work closely with internal and external partners and stakeholders to ensure the optimal use of our technology, making it possible to bring the mission to market and accelerate our team’s efficiency, collaboration, and effectiveness toward our organizational priorities and goals. You will lead technology for Citizen Schools’ 100+ staff and service members across the country, plus our consultants and partners who need to leverage shared technology for collaboration.

The Citizen Schools team is fully remote-enabled, with access to shared (WeWork) office spaces in some locations. We operate in a cloud environment and use a combination of software and apps to support our work. Citizen Schools has IT Support from an external consultant, who will be managed by the Director of Technology.

During COVID-19 this is a full-time, remote position reporting to the VP, Operations and in this role, you will serve as a thought partner in the ongoing evolution of the organization’s technology strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the short and long-term technology strategic plan and roadmap, in partnership with key stakeholders.
  • Oversee Citizen Schools’ overall IT environment, including IT infrastructure, software needs and uses, integration of platforms, technology policies, and end-user experience; including managing support for internal/external events.
  • Manage and ensure the quality delivery of all IT partners and technology vendors who support our work. While you will not execute helpdesk or IT functions, you will manage the scope, execution, and budget for this support with external partners, where IT support is outsourced.
  • Review, assess and renew Citizen Schools’ technology systems/platforms. Identify and address any gaps in functionality, adherence to compliance of data, information, security, and privacy requirements and organization needs to support the work of the staff and service members.
  • Stay up to date on technology, data storage, and privacy requirements for the work that we are doing in markets where programs are delivered. Scope includes federal, state, and donor requirements. This will include coordinating with external partners, Program, Measurement & Learning, National Service, HR/Talent, External Engagement & Philanthropy, and Operations.
  • Manage and update security requirements and policies governing data use and storage for the Citizen Schools environment.
  • Research, evaluate, recommend and implement additional technology needs for the organization. Oversee and shepherd and the process for leadership and team input for inclusive decision making.
  • Lead training and adherence to use of technologies by team members, including: onboarding, ongoing training, consistent usage and offboarding. Collaborate with Talent, HR, IT partners, and Operations to ensure all relevant parties are included in planning and decision making.
  • Manage the “Hub”, our intranet resource, working with divisional team members for content updates quarterly.
  • Lead meetings with internal and external partners and stakeholders for regular updates, to implement new technology, optimize or reinforce the use of processes or platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 6+ years of experience in IT/Technology, preference for candidates to possess a BS in IT, Technology or an equivalent discipline
  • Experience in education, nonprofit organizations, or prior service with AmeriCorps or National Service is a plus
  • Experience with the following technologies (or similar) are a plus: Google Suite, Salesforce, Asana, Box, Marketing Software (Mailchimp, Squarespace, Google Analytics, Hootsuite), HR systems (Namely), Finance (Concur, QuickBooks, bill.com) and Learning Management Systems (Canvas)
    • Demonstrated ability to quickly and accurately identify, and resolve problems in a fast-paced team environment
    • Superior organizational, planning, and analytical skills that enable one to handle multiple projects simultaneously while keeping shifting priorities in order
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are required as well as strong time management, project management and people management
    • Experience managing and supporting a cloud-based environment
    • Ability to communicate complicated technical concepts to non-technical audiences

    COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

    This is a full-time position with an annual salary range of $75,000 - 85,000; compensation is competitive with similar roles at non-profit organizations of comparable size and commensurate with experience.
