For more than two decades, middle school students in Boston, and across the United States, have been participating in hands-on learning opportunities that inspire curiosity, foster social-emotional learning, and better position learners to discover and achieve their dreams in college and beyond. We’ve impacted the lives of thousands of students because of the creativity, dedication, and commitment of our staff and AmeriCorps Service Members. Together, we work hand-in-hand with the communities we serve to imagine and design solutions that build on existing successes and cultivate new wins. It is in this spirit, that we continue to explore new avenues to serve students and families and are launching a search for a Director of Information Technology (IT); a revamped position focused on transitioning Citizen Schools’ technology infrastructure to meet the evolving priorities of the organization.

Citizen Schools has a long history of leveraging enterprise level systems in ways that support program, facilitate training and promote the use of data to inform decision-making. We are eager to continue to use technology in robust ways while exploring opportunities to use web-based, software as service, solutions that simplify the associated systems administration required. As the Director of IT, you will take ownership of Citizen Schools' Help Desk function and help lead the migration of the organization from on-premise infrastructure/equipment (such as network and file servers, Cisco phone system, etc.) to SaaS-based platforms. Additionally, this migration will be paired with a physical move from Citizen Schools long-standing headquarters office to a co-working space where the technology infrastructure will be managed across multiple locations.

An ideal candidate for this position will thrive in managing and leading through change, possess the skills to effectively project manage large scale projects and be able to garner buy-in and support for new technology solutions. The core focus of the role will be a balance between preparing for and leading the change while also supporting the evolving technology that delivers high-quality day-to-day service offerings to the network of ~200 users.

This full-time position will report directly to the CEO and serve as a key partner in the ongoing evolution of the organization’s technology strategy in ways that support Citizen Schools needs of today and the future.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • overall responsibility for supporting network infrastructure and access both within Citizen Schools’ Boston HQ and our regional and campus locations
  • overall responsibility for managing the Help Desk function, including SLA definition and management, customer satisfaction and reporting and analysis
  • partner with the Catalyst team internally at Citizen Schools to manage the roll-out, implementation and integration of a new Salesforce-based platform that facilitates the program delivery of the Catalyst model
  • management of the Technology Operations portions of the overall Technology team budget, including budget creation in consultation with organizational leadership
  • identify existing/emerging technology needs at the campus, state office and national levels and support cost/benefit analyses for potential solutions
  • manage key vendor relationships to ensure the quality of service and economic value
  • leading in the development and implementation of plans to migrate the majority of Citizen Schools’ infrastructure to public cloud providers
  • developing and implementing plans to provide appropriate levels of technology hardware and software to all Citizen Schools’ staff in a cost-effective and secure manner
  • ensuring compliance of Citizen Schools’ information security policies with Federal, state and donor requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience in IT-specific roles, preference for candidates to possess some management/leadership experience and a BS in IT or an equivalent discipline
  • Familiarity with Salesforce platform
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and accurately troubleshoot, identify, and resolve problems in a fast-paced team environment
  • Superior organizational, planning, and analytical skills that enable one to handle multiple projects simultaneously while keeping shifting priorities in order
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are required as well as strong time management, project management, people management, and customer service skills
  • Experience managing and supporting a cloud-based environment
  • Ability to communicate complicated technical concepts to non-technical audiences

  • Proactive attitude, out of the box thinking, sense of humor and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
